North East Indiana MeshCore

MeshCore is an off-grid messaging and telemetry system for everyone.

This site is a work in progress.

NEIMesh began deployment in Aug of 2026. At present, there are 11 NEIMesh routers deployed throughout Allen County. The goal is to provide reliable coverage throughout Allen County first, and then expand to cover the North East counties.

Mesh networking, in general, is any set of devices that self-organize to relay data.

What we have decided to deploy is a technology called MeshCore. MeshCore uses low-cost LoRa radios to send data over the 900MHz range. MeshCore is low bandwidth, and is suitable for text messages and telemetry data (eg, temperature sensors, gps location, etc).

MeshCore provides you an alternative means of communication when normal communication channels are down.

Settings to participate

In order to talk to other MeshCore devices in the area, your settings have to match. For the most part, NEIMesh has standardized on common settings that should allow most to communicate without a hitch, but there are some settings that are noteworthy to change in order to optimize the Mesh in its current state. (As it grows, these may change, as we adapt to scale).

Radio Settings:

910.525MHz (Standard USA Preset)
62.5KHz bandwidth
Spreading factor 7
Coding rate of 5
path hash size: 2-byte

Additional settings for running a repeater:

set agc.reset.interval 500
set multi.acks 1
set loop.detect minimal

Region Settings:

Currently regions aren’t enforced, but in preparation for future growth, we’re defining the following regions:

region put us-in
region put nei us-in
region put fwa nei
region allowf *

Anyone can add repeaters into the mix; they don’t need to be owned or managed…
